George has a long record of service with the Faculty dating back to the s and he is very fondly remembered by the longer-serving members of the team. As a foundation member of the Law School when it transitioned from part-time to full-time student attendance and full-time academic staff, it is not an exaggeration to say that he helped shape the Auckland Law School as it is today. He was on the staff for 26 years between and and is remembered and celebrated for his monumental contributions as author and teacher of Land Law, Equity and Taxation. George tried to conceal a delicious sense of humour; luckily a lot of it shone through and was enjoyed by several generations of his students and colleagues. He will be remembered for his collegiality and for his quiet wit and boisterous laugh, as well as for his academic contributions. His consuming academic interest was in the subject of New Zealand Land Law and he was the primary author of a series of authoritative texts on the subject. He later returned to Auckland to practice as a barrister, mainly undertaking opinion work, and devoting much energy to new editions of the Land Law publications. His prodigious dedication to this area continued up until his death. Dr Hinde is survived by his wife Marian, whom he met at the Law School.

She wants it from you, the other students, teachers, and employers.

While your inclination might be to roll your eyes when she corrects the professor, just go up to her after class and tell her she did a good job. It will mean the world.

A Harvard University representative says its new policy on sex between professors and students was created after a review found its old approach “did not explicitly reflect the faculty’s expectations. The change comes as the school examines its rules and undergoes a federal review. Last year, Harvard was among dozens of schools the Department of Education said it’s investigating for how they handle sexual abuse allegations. A Harvard representative says that the new policy was created after a review by a Faculty of Arts and Sciences committee found that “the existing language on relationships of unequal status did not explicitly reflect the faculty’s expectations of what constituted an appropriate relationship between undergraduate students and faculty members.

That has begun to change in recent years, with schools either barring professors from having sex with students they oversee or requiring them to recuse themselves from such situations. History[ edit ] The practices of courtship in Western societies have changed dramatically in recent history. As late as the s, it was considered unorthodox for a young couple to meet without familial supervision in a tightly controlled structure. Compared with the possibilities offered by modern communications technology and the relative freedom of young adults, today’s dating scene is vastly different.

Before the s, the primary reason for courting someone was to begin the path to marriage. It functioned as a way for each party’s family to gauge the social status of the other. This was done in order to ensure a financially and socially compatible marriage. This form of courtship consisted of highly rigid rituals, including parlor visits and limited excursions. These meetings were all strictly surveyed, typically by the woman’s family, in order to protect the reputations of all involved and limit such possibilities as pregnancy.

This manner of courtship system was mostly used by the upper and middle classes from the eighteenth century through the Victorian period.
